Besides checking over the entire vehicle, these are other important things to consider when buying a Pre-Loved EV. A well-maintained car is likely to be more reliable and have a longer lifespan.

A history report could be a dealbreaker, be sure to know what you are getting yourself into! The following 7 EV inspection insights include:

Battery:

🔋 Battery health is critical when buying an EV. Check the battery’s overall condition, including the charging port and cables, for any signs of wear or damage.

👨‍🔧 A battery health company, or even the vehicle’s computer can help you determine the battery’s health and capacity.

📊 There are companies that are comprising collective data on battery health as well as providing individual battery reports. (@Recurrent for example)

⚠️ Determine if the battery is leased. Someone could own part of your car. (That could be a possibility with some EVs.)

Charging:

🔌 Check if the car has access to charging stations that support the vehicle, and if so, what is the maximum output that it accepts.

⛽️ Are there enough charging stations in your area to meet your daily needs?

🔌 Also, be sure that the vehicle’s charging equipment is complete and in good working order.

📄 Warranty: 📄

📑 Check the car’s warranty status and coverage. Review the warranty documentation to understand its terms & exclusions.

🌊 Flood Damage: 🌊

🚣‍♀️ Flood-damaged cars can be a big problem, and EVs are no exception. Look for signs of water damage, such as a musty smell or visible watermarks on the interior, carpets, or seats.

⚠️ Also, check the car’s electrical system for any corrosion or water damage.

🔧 Service History: 🔧

🕵️‍♀️ Get a CARFAX! Ask for the car’s service history and review it carefully.

🗓️ Ensure that the car has had regular maintenance and necessary repairs.

💻 Latest Hardware/Software Version: 💻

⚙️ Check the latest hardware/software version of the particular vehicle, you may think you have features or the

ability to upgrade, but sometimes you can’t.

♻️ Transferrable Benefits: ♻️

♻️ Be sure to know what is transferrable, like free miles or self driving capabilities so you don’t miss out on any benefits.

✅ Any time you purchase a vehicle, do your research, inspect thoroughly and ask the right questions to avoid potential issues. Here’s to you finding your next EV. 😎
