NACS NEWS
Some notable news about NACS (North American Charging Standard), Tesla’s proprietary charging connection.
Industry wide, automakers are planning to adopt this aptly named NACS as standard. In the meantime…
Kia is a newcomer to the NACS adapter which will be provided free for the new EV9 & EV6 (conditions apply), while others will need to purchase, available in 2025. For Kia, there actually has to be an OTA software update to accept the charger adapter.
GM also has a GM approved NACS adapter available for purchase later this year.
Lucid has announced their upcoming vehicles will be equipped with NACS charging, but in the meantime, an adapter should be available in 2025.
Tesla has ramped production of their adapters to 8K units per week, allowing for more EV brands to use Tesla’s robust charging infrastructure.
*IMPORTANT: Not all Supercharger stations are open to non-Teslas. Tesla is currently rolling out the availability in phases, focusing primarily on high traffic areas.
