Inductive charging, also known as wireless charging (think wirelessly charging your phone) is a method of charging EVs without the need for a physical connection. 

An electromagnetic field is generated between two coils, one in the charging pad and the other in the vehicle, to transfer energy wirelessly and charge the battery. 

This method of charging is more convenient as it eliminates the need to plug in the charging cable and reduces the risk of wear and tear on the charging port.

Inductive charging infrastructures are being designed/ piloted/ implemented for use in various locations, including:

1. Private residential garages and driveways – For homeowners with EVs, wireless charging pads can be installed in their homes/ driveways for personal use.
2. Public charging networks in cities and on **highways, providing convenient charging options for EV drivers on the go.
3. Commercial fleets: inductive charging stations are being set up at depots and garages to provide fast and efficient charging for large numbers of EVs.
4. Airports, shopping centers, and other commercial locations: promoting the use of EVs and providing convenient inductive charging options for travelers and shoppers.
5. Automakers: Installing inductive charging systems in their production facilities, to support the charging needs of EVs being built there.

**In the US, as well as Overseas, companies are developing and testing pilot programs for inductive Highways by embedding charging pads or coils into the road surface. 

The EV will charge as you drive! 

It will take a significant investment in infrastructure, tech and years before it’s widely available.
