Do Your Due Diligence!  Flooded EVs (cars in general) are not a safe investment. Besides having issues that could show up much later, you are also buying a car that will prove difficult to sell.

Here are some tips:

1. ALWAYS GET A CARFAX REPORT!!!!!

2. Look for Moisture/ Mold/ Musty scent in all carpet:

*Be sure the carpets match (none “newer”)

* Look under carpets for mud, dirt or sand

* Check hard to clean places for evidence

* Feel inside and check trunk / frunk

* Pull Seatbelts all the way out to see any water stain lines

3. Check for premature Rust:

*Under seat rails

*Rusty springs

*Rusted bolts

Check for corrosion:

*Electrical systems

*Paint

*Body

More places evidence of flooding can hide:

*Door Jambs: Mud, dirt or sand Inside

*Under Dashboard: Possible water line

*Inside wheel wells: indication of deep water level ring

*Headlights/ Taillights: Check for moisture or debris inside

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED:

*Pre-purchase inspection

*Test Drive

Keep in mind:

**MAKE sure it doesn’t have a salvage, rebuilt or “lost” title.

*Insurance carriers have actually “totaled” water-damaged EVs because repair costs

*Uninsured flooded vehicles won’t have damage documentation

*Vehicle can be cleaned up and sold without damage disclosure

*Beware: damaged vehicles could be “title washed” and sold out of state – far away from previous flooding

*Remember that any flooded/water damaged vehicles’ (even when fixed) wiring harnesses, electronic circuit boards and mechanical systems could have a shortened life-time and can fail at any time.

*Saltwater damage will cause higher potential for corrosion/ rust!

*If you consider purchasing a salvaged EV, be sure to protect yourself.

*Damage needs to be assessed by trained mechanics followed by vehicle disassembly and repair.

*Exceptional attention is paid to battery, engine, drivetrain, and other major components- which may need replacing.

*Battery packs and EV safety systems are designed with waterproofing, but could experience short-circuiting and worse. Leave that to the Professionals!

Go electric ✌️
