When inspecting a Pre-Loved/ Used EV before buying, here are 8 items to check over:

  1. Battery: 🔋
Battery health is critical when buying an EV. Check the battery’s overall condition, including the charging port and cables, for any signs of wear or damage. In-car diagnostics, 3rd Party Apps or EV technician can help you determine the battery’s health and capacity. (There are companies that are comprising collective data on battery health as well as providing individual battery reports).
    * Determine if the battery is leased. Someone could own part of your car. (That could be a possibility with some EVs)
  2. Service History: 🔧
Get a CARFAX! Ask for the car’s service history and review it carefully. Ensure that the car has had regular scheduled maintenance and necessary repairs. A well-maintained car is likely to be more reliable and have a longer lifespan. A history report could be a dealbreaker, be sure to know what you are getting yourself into!
  3. Charging: 🔌
Check if the car has access to charging stations that supports DC charging, and if so, what is the maximum output that it accepts. Are there enough charging stations in your area to meet your daily needs. Be sure that the vehicle’s charging equipment is complete and in good working order.
  4. Warranty: 📃
Check the car’s warranty status and coverage. Review the warranty documentation to understand its terms & exclusions.
  5. Exterior and Interior: 🚗
Inspect the vehicle for any signs of damage, such as dents, scratches, rust or underbody damage, previous accidents or lack of maintenance. Check the interior for wear and tear, particularly on the seats and dashboard. Make sure all lights, locks, wipers, doors, windows, and other applicable features are tested.
  6. Flood Damage: 💦
Flood-damaged cars can be a big problem, and EVs are no exception. Look for signs of water damage, such as a musty smell or visible watermarks on the interior, carpets, or seats. Also, check the car’s electrical system for any corrosion or water damage.
  7. Hardware/Software: 🖥
Check the latest hardware/software version the particular vehicle, you may think you have features or the ability to upgrade, but sometimes you cannot.
  8. Transferrable Stuff & Features: ♻️
Be sure to know what is transferrable, like free miles or self driving capability so you don’t miss out on any benefits.

Any time you purchase a vehicle, do your research, inspect thoroughly and ask the right questions to avoid potential problems.  Here’s to you finding your reliable, cost-effective and eco-friendly ride.

Go electric ✌️
