How efficient is your EV?

To calculate the actual mileage, just divide the distance traveled by the energy used. Ex: your EV has a range of 240 miles and a 60 kWh battery. In this case, you’d expect a rating of 4 miles per kWh (Mi/kWh).
But keep in mind that factors like drag, driving habits, and extra weight can affect efficiency. If you want to know your actual energy usage per mile, calculate it just like you would for any car. Simply divide the distance you traveled by the energy used for efficiency rating.

HOW TO MEASURE EFFICIENCY

🔋 Mi/kWh is a way to measure EVs efficiency.

➗ How to find your expected Mi/kWh: Check your EV’s battery range and capacity (kWh) and divide the range by the capacity. (Example: 240 miles / 60 kWh = 4 miles/kWh)

⚠️ This is just an estimate- Many factors can affect your actual efficiency, such as drag, driving habits, climate and extra weight.

✅ To find your actual Mi/kWh: Charge your EV completely, then drive until you need to recharge. Divide the distance you traveled by the amount of energy used to recharge. (Ex: 100 miles / 20 kWh = 5 miles/kWh)

😎 The higher the Mi/kWh, the more efficient your EV.

Understanding Efficiency:

💵 Cost savings: Knowing your Mi/kWh helps you estimate your charging costs. Comparing your efficiency to the electricity cost per kWh in your area, you can budget for charging to maximize range and minimize costs.

🛣 Range planning: Understanding your actual Mi/kWh enables you to more accurately predict how far you can travel on a single charge. This is important for planning road trips or long drives.

🔋Charging optimization: Knowing your Mi/kWh can help you choose the most efficient charging options. For instance, you might use slower Level 2 charging at home if it’s cheaper than faster Level 3 charging on the go, especially if your efficiency allows you to charge overnight.

🛍 Comparison shopping: When buying an EV, Mi/kWh comparisons across different models can help you choose the most efficient option for your needs and budget. This can translate to significant cost savings over the lifetime of the car, especially if you drive a lot.

🍃 Environmental impact: Higher Mi/kWh translates to lower energy consumption and reduced carbon footprint per mile driven.

Now ya know! 😎

Go electric ✌️
