This is a major investment in the future of electric vehicles!  It shows that the automakers are committed to making EVs more mainstream, and it will help to build the charging infrastructure that is needed to support the growth of the EV market.

The automakers involved in the joint venture are BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis. The partnership is expected to be established this year.

The planned network will be open to all EV owners, regardless of the make or model. The plan is to build a massive, reliable, high-power, eco-friendly EV charging network across North America.

The goal is to install at least 30,000 charging stations in urban areas, highway, travel corridors and vacation routes by 2030.  This will make it easier for EV owners to travel long distances without worrying about running out of power.

The first US charging stations are aiming to open in the summer of 2024. The network will use CCS and NACS connectors, which are the two most common EV charging standards in North America.

It’s it is not yet clear how the network will be owned and operated, or how much it will cost to use the stations. The group will utilize the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure funding along with state, federal, private and public resources.

The huge partnership is a good example of cooperation between competitors, working together on a common goal. This is a positive sign for the future of the EV industry. It will help to make EVs more convenient and accessible, and it could help to accelerate the transition to a cleaner transportation future.

Go electric ✌️
