According to an article in the Daily Mail, a woman from Wales unfortunately lost her life due to wearing headphones while crossing a road. The vehicle she was struck by was electric and silent.

The coroner for South Wales Central called for new headset warning signs. These signs are expected to alert pedestrians to remove headsets at vulnerable crosswalks. The belief is that the growing number of EVs on the road will contribute to the challenge of safely crossing the streets.

UK Councils and highway agencies are asked to identify where these signs would be most necessary.

These signs would accompany signs for drivers alerting of pedestrians who may be wearing headphones.

*While electric vehicles are silent, relying on sound without sight isn’t exactly the safest way to cross any road.

Any degree of safety reinforcement is helpful, but why would you need to remove headsets to listen for a silent vehicle?

I truly believe the signs alerting drivers of pedestrians ahead would be beneficial.

Go electric ✌🏼
