UAW & The BIG THREE Agree?!
The UAW (United Auto Workers Union) has reached tentative agreements with all three of the “Big Three” Auto Manufacturers: General Motors, Stellantis and Ford. The agreements, which are still subject to approval by UAW members, include record gains for auto workers, including hefty wage increases, new product commitments and job investments.
The GM provisionary agreement includes the following:
- 25% in base wage increases through April 2028
- Elimination of all wage tiers
- Restoration of COLA and a three-year wage progression
- Five $500 payments to current retirees and surviving spouses
- Right to strike over plant closures
The Stellantis provisionary agreement includes the following gains:
- 25% general wage increase over the course of the agreement
- Restoration of 2009 COLA and three-year progression
- Elimination of the divisive wage tier at MOPAR
- Increase in pension multiplier
- Commitment to reopen the Belvidere Assembly Plant, new battery plant and add jobs
- At ratification, workers will receive an immediate 11% wage increase
- Investment of almost $19 billion in new investment in the United States
- Right to strike over plant closures and product & investment
The Ford tentative agreement includes:
- $10,000 signing bonus for all hourly workers
- 25% in base wage increases over the life of the agreement
- Added to pension multiplier
- Elimination of all wage tiers
- Restoration of COLA and a three-year wage progression
- Right to strike over plant closures
The provisionary deals between the UAW and the Big Three are a positive step for auto workers and shows that they are committed to “…move forward together. As a united UAW, back in the fight to save the American dream”.
